M. Patrick Lowe, MD
M. Patrick Lowe, M.D., is Co-Director of the Section of Gynecologic Oncology and Director of Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery Program for Gynecologic Oncology for Advocate Christ Medical Center. Dr. Lowe is widely regarded as one of the top experts in robotic and laparoscopic surgery for gynecologic cancers in the United States. Dr. Lowe is also an expert in advanced laparoscopic and single port laparoscopic surgery, and recently developed an innovative surgical technique called hybrid robotic surgery. He is a member of the Gynecologic Oncology Group, Society of Gynecologic Oncology, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. He is board certified in Gynecologic Oncology and Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Lowe earned his medical degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, and completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Lowe completed his fellowship in gynecologic-oncology at the University of Southern California where he trained in advanced laparoscopic and pelvic surgery. Upon completion of fellowship, he was one of the first 10 gynecologic oncologist in the United States to receive certification on the da Vinci Surgical System after its FDA approval in April 2005. He has served as a clinical instructor at the University of Southern California and the University of Tennessee, and he helped develop one of the first robotics programs in the United States at The West Clinic/University of Tennessee Gynecologic Oncology in 2005. Dr. Lowe comes to Advocate after serving as the founder and director of the robotic surgery program at Northwestern Prentice Women's Hospital which gained national prominence under his guidance and leadership.
Dr. Lowe has performed over 900 robotic surgeries for gynecologic cancers and benign gynecologic disease since 2005. He has lectured nationally and internationally and most recently traveled to Florence, Italy to teach robotic surgery. He has published numerous articles on robotic and laparoscopic surgery outcomes and co-founded the gynecologic oncology robotic surgical consortium that has reported one of the largest experiences with robotic surgery to treat endometrial and cervical cancer. Dr. Lowe is the only expert provider of robotic radical hysterectomy in Illinois, and one of a few skilled surgeons in the United States who offers robotic surgery for patients with early stage ovarian cancer. Finally, Dr. Lowe is well known for his surgical education videos (robotic/laparoscopy) that have been selected for presentation at national/international meetings for the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, Society of Gynecologic Oncology, Minimally Invasive Robotic Association, and the American College of Surgeons. His videos (robotic, laparoscopic) posted online for trainee and patient education (YouTube-mpatricklowemd) have accrued over 291,000 page views since 2007.
